✨ Honoured to Host the 12th Biennial WCCM-Canada National Conference 2026 ✨
July 24-26, I had the privilege of hosting and moderating the World Community for Christian Meditation | WCCM-Canada National Conference at Victoria College in Toronto and online, in my role as National Coordinator and Board Member.
Our theme — Transforming Together in Peace: Reconnecting humanity and the living earth — guided a rich and diverse program of speakers, workshops, and contemplative practice.
🌊 Tom Mustill — “The Science of Noticing and the Art of Connecting”
A conservation biologist turned filmmaker and writer, Tom specializes in stories where people and nature meet. Through his work studying whales using advanced technology and AI, he has uncovered modes of communication — including expressions of compassion — that bring the natural world closer to us.
🪶 Chief Stacey Laforme — ex-Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
Chief LaForme shared deeply moving poetry, reminding us that we stand on common ground and carry a shared obligation to Mother Earth. His words offered both truth and tenderness, bringing to our weekend Indigenous wisdom and stewardship.
🕊️ Fr. Laurence Freeman — “The New Order”
Fr. Laurence, WCCM’s Global Director, reflected on meditation as a path of personal and social transformation, highlighting the importance of the more than 100 weekly meditation groups across the country.
💠 Louise Hébert‑Saindon — Resilience Through Spiritual Practice
A nurse, health policy expert and meditation leader, showed how spiritual practice builds resilience in everyday life.
💬 Sandra VanderVaart — Empathetic Communication & NVC
Drawing on Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Sandra offered practical tools to recognize unmet needs and feelings hidden in dialogue — and to listen and speak with greater compassion toward ourselves and one another.
🌳 Andrea Siqueira — Certified Tai Chi & ISSA Personal Trainer
Andrea led a refreshing outdoor Tai Chi and Qigong session beneath the “Big Tree,” inviting participants to reconnect with breath, body, and the natural world.
Thank you to everyone who participated in person and online. Together we experienced the power of silence, community, and hope.
