Five years on, we express our gratitude for the tireless efforts of family members, community leaders, Imams, advocacy organizations, neighbours, and civic and political leaders - and all who are working to put out the fires of hate and ensuring that Our London Family is never forgotten. May Allah bless their souls, and grant ease and acceptance.

What happened on the streets of London, ON, five years ago should spur all leaders and community members to work together against the current rise in Islamophobia.

There is no more important time than now to turn remembrance into real action.

WATCH: CCI's Bill C-9 testimony at the Senate with other Canadian Muslim groups

For months, we have been working alongside other national Muslim groups to address the challenges posed by Bill C-9. Alhamdulillah, today we had the chance to address the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights, which is studying the bill as part of the parliamentary process. We focused on the Bill's potential impacts on religious freedoms, while other Muslim groups addressed the other challenges.

On this first day of Dhul Hijjah, we are watching with deep concern and praying for our brothers and sisters in San Diego. May Allah elevate the ranks of those who were martyred, grant healing to the injured, and keep the innocent under His special protection.

As we stated following the violent threat directed at a Quebec masjid on April 30, places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries of peace, reflection, and community – values shared across faith traditions. Incidents like this strike at the very foundation of those values.

Although our masajid remain open spaces of prayer, peace, and service, this senseless tragedy is yet another reminder that vigilance is not optional in today’s world.

Br. Amin Abdullah, the security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego who was among the martyrs, reportedly played a pivotal role in preventing further casualties, especially amongst children. May Allah grant him acceptance and the highest place in Jannah.

While we place our trust in Allah and always pray for the best, we must continue taking all reasonable measures to protect our sacred spaces and communities.

May Allah grant ease, safety, and strength to all who stand together in peace, truth, and justice.

🌙 The blessed month of Dhul Hijjah is expected to begin at sunset on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Those planning to offer Udhiyyah/Qurbani are encouraged to cut their nails and trim their hair before sunset on Sunday, as they should refrain from doing so once Dhul Hijjah begins until their sacrifice is completed.

May Allah ﷻ allow us to witness these blessed days and fill them with goodness.

A nationwide coalition representing over 700 Canadian Muslim physicians, healthcare professionals, mental health practitioners, and faith leaders is calling on the federal government to permanently stop plans to allow medically assisted death (MAiD) for people suffering only from mental illness.

The joint statement warns that many Canadians still struggle to access timely and appropriate mental health care, counselling, and support – and that vulnerable people should be met with compassion, treatment, and hope, not assisted death.

On Sunday, we were invited to speak at a media conference at the Mosque of Aylmer in Gatineau, Quebec, following a violent threat directed at the masjid's Imam and congregation. Authorities later arrested a local man and seized weapons. Local officials, media representatives, and community members were in attendance. Our remarks were offered in French, followed by English.
