Earlier this week I was proud to represent ADO and offer the following prayer and blessing for the Ellwood House Extension. Building on the success of Ellwood House, we continue to care for seniors who are precariously housed. This project offers seniors safe, affordable, permanent housing for independent living. Just as importantly, it offers a place to belong, a place that respects each person, a place to call home.
We can only provide these affordable units in partnership with faith communities, governments, community organizations, and donors. “Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” (1 John 3:18)
"Let us pray.
Gracious and loving God,
you are the refuge and strength of all generations,
the shelter of the weary,
and the sure foundation of every home.
We give you heartfelt thanks for the Ellwood House Extension
for the vision that brought it into being,
for the hands that will build it,
and for the community that will gather within its walls.
We pray a blessing upon:
board members and parish members
planners and builders,
partners, funders and supporters,
and for all whose generosity will make this home possible.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon this dwelling,
that it may be a place of safety, dignity, and peace.
Bless all who shall live here:
grant them comfort in their days,
companionship in their evenings,
and joy in the sharing of life together.
May their years be rich with memory and hope,
their hearts strengthened in faith,
and their lives upheld in your love.
Make this community a sign of your kingdom—
where justice is cherished,
where no one is left behind,
and where each person is honoured as your beloved child.
Guard this place from all harm;
fill it with kindness and laughter;
and let your presence dwell here continually.
All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who prepares a place for us
and calls us into the household of God.
Amen."
