The following four bishops have been nominated by the Order of Bishops for the office of Primate of The Anglican Church of Canada.

04/01/2025

The journey toward electing the next Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada is underway. This week, the House of Bishops gathers at Mount Carmel in Niagara Falls for a time of prayer, reflection, and discernment. As part of this gathering, they will prayerfully nominate three to five bishops to be presented on the ballot at General Synod. Acting Primate Archbishop Anne Germond invites the whole church to pray that the Spirit may guide the bishops in wisdom and grace.

This is wonderful news! Congratulations to Bp.-Elect BrantFrancis and the Diocese of Moosonee.

Rev. Rod BrantFrancis elected bishop of the Diocese of Moosonee

Bishop William Cliff is pleased to announce that that Rev. Rod BrantFrancis has been elected as the new bishop of the Diocese of Moosonee. This significant appointment reflects Rod's unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership and commitment to his faith and ministry in the Anglican Church of Canada.

Rod has been the incumbent of the Parish of Tyendinaga in the Diocese of Ontario since 2016 where he ministers to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte along with his wife, Priest Associate Rev. Lisa BrantFrancis. Rod previously served in the Diocese of Moosonee from 2006-2016 before coming to the Diocese of Ontario. He was commissioned in the Church Army in 1994 and ordained a deacon in the Anglican Church in 2006 and priested in 2007 in the Diocese of Moosonee.

Rod’s election as bishop is a testament to his tireless efforts and the deep respect he commands among his peers. His vision, compassion, and steadfast faith will undoubtedly guide the Diocese of Moosonee towards a future ministering to all baptized Christians, fostering diocesan development and spiritual growth and stewardship, and commitment to walking in partnership for the implementation of the Indigenous Covenant.

Blessings on Rod and Lisa on their new journey together.

Please keep Diocese of Moosonee in your prayers as they elect a bishop this Wednesday!
Candidates are the Rev. Rod BrantFrancis and the Rev. Canon Tom Stradwick.

Lay delegates, Clergy, and other Members of Synod will gather to elect the Twelfth Bishop of Moosonee in Cochrane, Ontario, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. This follows the decision taken by the Diocesan Synod at Timmins in June 2024 to return to full diocesan status with a resident diocesan bishop. M...

IN JUST OVER THREE MONTHS, from June 23-29, Anglicans from across Canada will gather for General Synod. This will be a momentous meeting as a new Primate will be elected and a number of significant proposals for restructuring of the Church will be debated.
Communion Partners (Canada) will be there to host delegates in our hospitality suite, offering fellowship, worship, and strategy sessions. Our prayer teams will be there to support delegates and to ask the Holy Spirit to lead the Church into decisions that are Biblically faithful and Gospel-based, and that our discussions would be charitable and unifying.

At this time, we have a space booked for a suite and we have volunteers in place to welcome guests; we are also working hard on our essay series, which will address a number of the key proposals being put forward at General Synod.

We wanted to share with you an outline of the costs associated with our efforts:
$3000 for hospitality suite rental
$2000 for food
$2000 for travel
$500 in printing costs (essays, brochures)
$500 miscellaneous
$3000 for a booth & supplies for the exhibit hall

At this time, we have almost enough funds in place for the rental of the suite itself. But that leaves $8000 in other expenses that are not yet covered. Can you give to support these efforts?
With your help, we will ensure that there is a strong presence at General Synod to support delegates and to advance our mission of "deepening Biblical faith in the Anglican Church of Canada."

The Nairobi-Cairo Proposals have a specific purpose, but Ephraim Radner discerns that they are built on a sweeping vision of the church that has beauty and persuasiveness.

As part of the nomination process for the next Archbishop of Canterbury, the Church of England has launched a public consultation inviting input from around the Anglican Communion. The consultation runs from February 7 to March 28.

The consultation is an opportunity to gather the views of a wide range of people from across the Anglican Communion on the gifts, qualities and skills needed in the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury. Those who take part will also be able to submit names for the Crown Nominations Commission (CNC) to consider.

Speaking about the process, The Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, The Rt Reverend Anthony Poggo said:

“The office of the Archbishop of Canterbury has an important international dimension as a focus of unity in the life of the Anglican Communion. It is a personal and pastoral leadership role, with historic significance. It seeks to listen, serve and encourage Anglican churches globally in Christian witness. I pray for the discernment process of the Crown Nominations Commission and welcome the public consultation. I know it will provide a communion-wide opportunity for Anglicans to share their views on the gifts and qualities they deem important for the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury. May the findings be wisely and prayerfully considered."
