Dear fellow community members,
We are excited to share with you a unique opportunity to perform a great mitzvah that aligns with our values and beliefs as Torah-observant Jews.
As you may know, Morocco has a rich Jewish history that dates back centuries. Unfortunately, many of the old synagogues in the historical centers of the country have fallen into disrepair, leaving our Jewish heritage at risk of being lost forever. In addition, the cemeteries that hold the remains of our ancestors are also in need of restoration.
However, with the recent Abraham Accords, we anticipate an influx of Jewish tourists to Morocco, providing a chance for us to reconnect with our roots and restore these sacred spaces. To this end, we have identified a pilot project in the coastal town of Essaouira, the birthplace of the great Rabbi and Kabbalist Haim Pinto, where his childhood synagogue still stands and holds minyanim on rare occasions such as high holidays.
Our vision is to acquire properties near the synagogue to turn them into houses of Hachnasat Orchim, or hospitality houses, for Jewish tourists from Israel and beyond. These houses will not only provide much-needed accommodations but also create a sense of community for those seeking to reconnect with their Jewish heritage. Moreover, we will be taking care of restoring the old cemeteries, so that our ancestors' final resting places will be maintained with dignity.
In the long term, we plan to launch educational programs for families with children, to help pass on our traditions and heritage to the next generation. We also hope to become ambassadors for peace in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region by promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

חברי הקהילה היקרים,
אנו נרגשים לחלוק עמכם הזדמנות ייחודית לקיים מצווה גדולה התואמת את הערכים והאמונה שלנו כיהודים שומרי תורה ומצוות.
כפי שאתם אולי יודעים, למרוקו יש היסטוריה יהודית עשירה בת מאות שנים. למרבה הצער, רבים מבתי הכנסת הישנים והמרכזים ההיסטוריים זקוקים נואשות לשיפוץ, מה ששם את המורשת היהודית שלנו בסכנה להיאבד לעד. בנוסף, גם בתי הקברות המחזיקים את שרידי אבותינו זקוקים לשיקום.
עם זאת, בעקבות הסכמי אברהם שנחתמו לאחרונה, אנו צופים זרם של תיירים יהודים למרוקו, המאפשר לנו הזדמנות להתחבר מחדש לשורשים שלנו ולשמר את המרחבים הקדושים הללו. לשם כך הוקם פרויקט פיילוט זה בעיירת החוף Essaouira, מקום הולדתו של הרב והמקובל הגדול חיים פינטו, בית הכנסת בו התפלל בילדותו עדיין עומד ומתקיימים בו מניינים במקרים נדירים, כמו בתקופת החגים.
החזון שלנו הוא לרכוש נכסים ליד בית הכנסת כדי להפוך אותם לבית של הכנסת אורחים, או בתי אירוח, לתיירים יהודים מישראל ומחוצה לה. בתים אלה לא רק יספקו מקומות לינה נחוצים, אלא גם יתרמו לתחושת הקהילתיות עבור אלו המבקשים להתחבר מחדש למורשת היהודית שלהם. בנוסף, נדאג לשקם את בתי העלמין הישנים, על מנת שאבותינו יוכלו להמשיך לנוח בשלום ובכבוד במקום משכבם האחרון.
לטווח הרחוק, אנו מתכננים להשיק תוכניות חינוכיות עבור משפחות עם ילדים, כדי לסייע בהעברת המסורות והמורשת שלנו לדור הבא.כמו כן, אנו מקווים להפוך לשגרירי שלום באזור (המזרח התיכון וצפון אפריקה) על ידי קידום שיח ושיתוף פעולה בין-דתי.
