Repost of an absolutely spot-on breakdown by our brother in Christ • “Jesus is not a conservative or progressive,” says people. But does that mean Jesus is apolitical? Does that mean that Jesus did not impart us clear instructions on how to conduct “tikkun olam,” and spread the Gospel’s material liberation along with its spiritual salvation? Yes, Jesus wasn’t conservative or progressive - he was revolutionary. He set aside these human labels and petty rivalries and replaced them with justice, peace, reconciliation, and universal, unconditional radical love for all marginalized, downtrodden, and oppressed peoples in all of humanity.

Repost from , highly relevant to LTW coordinator ’s discussion of the pluriversality and radically universal implications of the Pentecost at last night’s prayer meeting! • Quote from “Acts: A Theological Commentary on the Bible.”
Pentecost was not a colonizing act. It was not a means to create sameness out of diversity, or commonality out of culture. Rather, Pentecost was a move of the Divine Spirit to enter spatial reality with a Love so deep and so vast and so wide. It was this very Love that set powerful people free of their need for power over others, while empowering marginalized people with a boldness to resist the powers and authorities that oppress. This is grace. This is what Pentecost is all about.

Far too many Pentecostal Christians chase after a “right” experience in which a person manifests the “correct” evidence of Spirit-indwelling. They attempt to control how the Spirit moves and operates. Not only is this dangerous theology, but it can also be an example of power over people rather than the power that brings people liberation. It quickly becomes colonizing theology that creates the very thing that we need liberating from.

This Pentecost Sunday, let’s give up our need for power/control over others by practicing neighbourly love. We do this by ensuring no person is overlooked. Micah 6:8 is a good litmus test: doing justice, showing kindness, and walking in humility. May we not discriminate; may we do this without demanding any conditions.

Maybe this is what it truly means to be empowered. Maybe this is what the “Spirit-filled life” looks like in practice.

A beautiful message on the necessity of decentering the Western materialist socioeconomic, and White European cultural lenses and contexts from our understandings and readings of the Bible from . Grounding the Gospel where it belongs - amongst the marginalized, the downtrodden, and outcast pushed to the fringes of the material society - and within the Middle Eastern, Asian, racialized, and Aramaic-speaking Jewish cultural context from whence it emerged.
We as Saint Thomas Christians are in a unique position to use our ancient connection to the Apostolic Age, flowing forth from our forefather Apostle St. Thomas, to further our ancestral Eastern traditions passed down from the earliest roots of the Church to decolonize the Christian faith from White supremacy and White-centred cultural biases.
The Mar Thoma Church’s long history of activism supports this reality. But ask yourselves - are you as Marthomites willing to take on this task? To understand the cultural origins of our Saint Thomas community and its history of resistance to European colonialism and imposed spirituality, and to testify our experience as Christians preserving the culture of Jesus in our worship/customs? The dominance of White Christianity can often be overpowering for Eastern communities struggling to return Christianity to its racialized roots - it can often be easier to stand distinct from the rest of world than from Euro-Western fellow Christians. But living fearlessly and faithfully in remembrance of the Gospel and preserving what we understand of the Early Church helps us to and decolonize the Church to recognize the voices of the 2/3 of global Christians who are POC and/or from Eastern traditions.

HIS GRACE THE MOST REV. DR. PHILLIPOSE MAR CHRYSOSTOM VALIYA METROPOLITAN, MAR THOMA XX (27/04/1917-05/05/2021)
A Channel of peace has left us, A steward of Christ has been called, A beloved Leader has departed, A loyal disciple has faded, the "People's Bishop" has gone. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Valiya Thirumeni has been called into the arms of the Father Almighty just a few short days after his 104th birthday. With a compassionate personality to match his longevity, Mar Thoma XX was an inspiration to Mar Thoma Youth anywhere & everywhere and a rolemodel to us at the Light the Way Ministry. His steadfast legacy of selfless service to Christ and all Creation will never be forgotten.
We express our heartfelt condolences to the all members of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, our clergy, bishops, and everyone who cherished the Holy Spirit within this servant of Jesus and led the Church humbly even to the most marginalized of communities. Godspeed, Valiya Thirumeni - you will be remembered always in our hearts.

04/04/2021

We at wish all of our beloved community members, both Marthomites, other Christians, and our non-Christian brethren, a most joyous and blessed (known in the West as “Easter”).
Today, we celebrate the Third Day, the Resurrection of Christ after his martyrdom and Crucifixion on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of the world. Today, after Harrowing the underworld, Christ rose from the grave and conquered Death once and for all, so that whosoever should believe on His Name would experience eternal union with the Creator. This belief underpins the Christian faith that has persevered throughout the ages, just as the life Christ lived inspires Christians to move through life respecting ourselves and serving and loving God, our partners, our families, our friends, our human community, and all beings in Creation.
Celebrate today feasting with your loved ones in celebration of the wondrous miracle of this day, and we pray that the grace of the Father, the love of the Son, and the communion and abiding presence of the Holy Spirit move with you today as you meditate on the meaning of this past week and the Lenten season that preceded it.

The is proud to celebrate of the Movement’s ministry for awareness, support for, and rights of Transgender people in India. We are humbled by the leadership of our beloved Mar Thoma Metropolitan Theodosius (Mar Thoma XXII) for acceptance of Transgender people in Indian law and in the Christian Church.
We as Marthomites commemorate & elevate the Transgender community on this Day, passing so close to Transgender Day of Visibility, as they face much violence, hatred, judgment, & misunderstanding. 🏳️‍⚧️❤️✝️
Today as we await the coming of the Risen Christ, let us remember to love and support our Transgender siblings & other marginalized, oppressed, & downtrodden communities who He loved and treasured. Let us recognize the image of God in the faces of the poor, the homeless, the community, s*x workers, the substance-addicted, and support the Mar Thoma Church’s efforts for their empowerment.
