Ascension Day

Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe thy only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and with him continually dwell; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Gospel: Acts 1:1-11
Epistle: Mark 16:14-20

THE ROGATION DAYS:

BEING THE THREE DAYS BEFORE ASCENSION DAY

ASSIST us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of thy servants towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, they may ever be defended by thy most gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

⛪ Our Faith: The 39 Articles of Religion

📜 Article XV – Of Christ Alone Without Sin

Christ, in the truth of our nature, was made like unto us in all things—sin only excepted. He was wholly without sin, both in His flesh and in His spirit. He came as the spotless Lamb, who by the sacrifice of Himself once made, took away the sins of the world; and as St. John testifies, sin was not in Him.

But all we, though baptized and born again in Christ, still offend in many things; and if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

✝️ “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” – 1 John 3:5 (KJV)

🌍 Why it matters: Article XV proclaims the sinlessness of Christ—the pure and perfect Savior who alone could take away the world’s sin. His righteousness is our hope and our covering.

🙏 Why it speaks today: Though we stumble, Christ remains without sin. In Him we find forgiveness, cleansing, and peace—the very absolution our souls long for. Through His perfect obedience and sacrifice, we are assured that grace truly overcomes sin.

On this “Rogation Sunday”*, hear the comforting words of the Gospel:

“Verily, verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John xvi). *from the Latin, rogare - to ask

Good Friday

Collects:
ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross, who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified; Receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before thee for all estates of men in thy holy Church, that every member of the same, in his vocation and ministry may truly and godly serve thee; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

O MERCIFUL God, who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made, nor wouldest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live; Have mercy upon the Jews, thine ancient people, and upon all who reject and deny thy Son; take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy Word; and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to thy fold, that they may be made one flock under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Epistle: Hebrews 10:1-25
Gospel: John 18:33-19:37

The Thursday before Easter, or Maundy Thursday

Collects

Almighty and everlasting God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

and

Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
