Join us tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. for Anniversary Sunday! Potluck to follow, and all are welcome.
We were a church set to close, and tomorrow, Sunday, June 14, 2026, was supposed to be the last Sunday we gathered for regular worship inside the little sanctuary on Sand Hill Road.
Instead, tomorrow we will gather to celebrate. We will share a meal. We will give thanks to God through music and prayer. We will hear scripture read and be invited to reflect. We will meet neighbours, both new and old.
And we will keep gathering, week after week.
What we thought was the end has become a celebration.
We share this good news with tenderness, recognizing that some people reading this may have experienced the loss of their own church or worship community. If you are one of those people, you may wonder: Why is a church that was set to close remaining open? What changed?
An entire industry has developed around helping churches answer this very question. These experts seek to guide people from a place of fear to a place of faith, reminding us that God is with us even in the hard times. Especially in the hard times.
And sometimes, in those difficult seasons, we are forced to confront our blessed humanity. We must admit that we do not know God's plans for the future of the church. Yet we continue to trust.
God does incredible things.
God builds community.
God restores hope, faith, and joy.
God resurrects.
Through the prophet Isaiah, God says: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness…”
One new thing we have witnessed is that all of God's people have a role to play and a gift to share in the life and ministry of the church. We remember these words from 1 Peter, “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
Tomorrow, we do not only celebrate the open doors of God's sanctuary on Sand Hill Road. We give thanks to God for making us, and remaking us, into the body of Christ.
May God grant us hearts to love as God loves, courage to serve as Christ serves, and wisdom to move according to God's will and Holy Spirit.
All Glory be to God: Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.
