Lutheran Church–Canada joins in prayer for all those affected by the tragic explosion and fire at CFB Wainwright, which claimed four lives and left many others injured. While the numbers are lower than were initially communicated, our hearts grieve no less. So, we continue steadfast in prayer.

Our chaplains serving with the Canadian Armed Forces are responding, bringing care and comfort to the bereaved, the injured, military members, first responders, and their families.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

The sermon from October 18, 2026.

“For apart from Me, you can do nothing,” (John 15:5) Jesus says. He’s the image of God in human flesh. Jesus is the exact imprint of God’s nature, come into our flesh to render to God what was God’s. The Pharisees handed Him over to Pontius Pilate, Caesar’s governor, and Jesus hands Himself over to God. Jesus did what you could not: He rendered to His Father everything. In His death, Jesus renders to God the things that are God’s, not with Caesar’s coin, nor silver or gold, but with His own holy and precious blood, with His innocent suffering and death at the hands of a Roman government that served as God’s instrument to reclaim this fallen world from sin, death, and the devil.

The sermon from October 11, 2026.

Jesus is risen from the dead. Death is undone in immortal life. Death is swallowed up in victory. The reproach of the Law against you has been turned away. No longer does it lay on you; Jesus took it from you and gave Himself as the innocent sacrifice that silences its damning reproach. Now, who’s there to condemn you? Christ Jesus is the one who died; more than that, now is living and sits at the right hand of God the Father and is interceding for you. So there’s therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

The sermon from October 4, 2026:

Jesus goes to the tenants. He goes to the rebellious people of Israel, to the sinful world itself, and He fulfills the Father’s will to be rejected, to be led out of the city of Jerusalem, and then to be pinned to the wooden cross to be crucified to death. They meant it for evil, but God worked it for good. So that in His rejection, you find adoption. In His rejection, you find adoption into God’s grace. You find all the riches of God’s productive vineyard at Christ’s expense.

The sermon from September 27, 2026:

Jesus spoke this parable during Holy Week. By the end of the week, Jesus will show exactly by what authority He does these things: He rises from the dead. Forty days later, He ascends into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father, there to serve as your advocate and intercessor. It is by His authority at the right hand of God that He shows you your sins through the preaching of His church and the called ministers of Christ. It is by His authority at the right hand of God that He shows you the nail scars in His hands, and He judges you righteous by His grace through faith. Jesus says you’re as right with God as Jesus Himself. We bring nothing but our sin, nothing but our curse, nothing but our death, and Jesus fills us with His forgiveness, His blessing, and His life.
