The sermon from May 24, 2026.

We’ve all got clothes for different sorts of occasions: clothes for work, clothes for yard work, and we’ve got our Sunday best. We all have clothes that fit the occasion. And so, to stand before your God, you need clothes that fit the occasion. Not your own, but the clothes that the Holy Spirit Himself gives to you: the righteous life of Jesus given for you on the cross. Jesus took your self-stitched sinful rags to His death on the cross. He buried them in His death. Those rags don’t belong to you anymore. Now, the Holy Spirit dresses you in Jesus and His right life before God for you.

The Holy Spirit clothed you with Christ in your Baptism, so that you now wear Jesus like a sacrificial suit. That’s how God deals with the disease of Sin. Your Sin is covered. The wages of Sin is death, but where Sin is covered, death reigns no more.

The sermon from May 17, 2026.

This is not the hand of God raised to strike, judge, or condemn. It is the hand that turned the Nile to blood, parted the Red Sea, tore down the walls of Jericho, and slung the rock that killed Goliath. This is the hand that healed the lame, the deaf, the mute, and the blind. This is the hand that cured the sick, cast out demons, and raised the dead. The mighty hand of God is the hand that saves. The mighty hand of God is the hand that was pulled tight and pinned to the wood of the cross by the nails digging into His flesh.

Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. This is the hand that puts all God’s power to work to save you. St Peter quotes the Old Testament saying, “The righteous is scarcely saved,” or, you could say, that the righteous are saved with great difficulty. It’s the mighty hand of God that takes up the difficult task of saving you, bringing you into His grip and giving you His life on the cross.

The sermon from May 10, 2026:

Yes, in this world you will have trouble, but take heart; in your heart honour Christ as holy. The life that He gave for you on the cross has overcome all of your sin. You are forgiven. You are holy through faith in Him. Jesus has overcome the world in His death for you. Though you might follow your Lord Jesus in suffering, your life now reaches far beyond the grave in Christ into eternal life. You have the treasure that this world can never touch. You’ve been reborn to a living hope, kept in heaven, safe with God for you. Jesus suffered, He died & rose from the dead as your victorious, conquering hero, taking His victory all the way down to spirits in prison, all the way down to hell itself, to proclaim His victory to the spirits from days of Noah. You remember the story of Noah, right? From a time when sin seemed out of control, and God regretted making humanity, these spirits in prison have their nose rubbed in the victory of Jesus’ death & resurrection. They had ignored and refused the warning and the salvation of Noah’s ark. And now, here’s Jesus: the fulfillment of the ark walking through conquered land to reveal Himself as God’s salvation.

God does His most wonderful work by the instrument that the world rejects. Through Peter, the Holy Spirit solves your identity crisis in Jesus and His death and resurrection for you. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever; so your identity never changes. It is firm. It is as solid as a rock, and all who build on Him will never be put to shame. Even death can’t put you to shame because of the living hope that Jesus won for you.

Entrust yourself to your Good Shepherd. He’s the one who endured all suffering truly unjustly for you, and now He lives again. His resurrection does stuff. Jesus’ resurrection assures you that the suffering that you endure in this life isn’t all there is. Jesus lives. His resurrection is the guarantee for you that this life is as bad as going to be for the sheep. New life awaits you. Full and complete healing awaits you. Resurrection life awaits you.

The sermon from April 19, 2026:

Jesus gave His blood to set you free from the futile ways you’ve inherited from your forefathers. His blood broke their chains upon you. Jesus took those chains upon Himself on the cross, becoming a curse for us. Though He is a lamb without blemish or spot, He took all the wrath of God your futile ways deserved. Jesus gave Himself so that you are set free. Jesus shed His sinless, spotless blood as the ransom that sets you free and purifies you from your own futility. In Him, you’re spotless before your God. Your sins are forgiven. You stand before your God with just as many blemishes as Jesus has—none. Your futile ways no longer control you; Jesus does. Your futile ways no longer set your future; Jesus does, and you have the shed blood of the cross & the resurrected Jesus to prove it.

The sermon from April 12, 2026

Jesus’ resurrection does things. The resurrection proves that Jesus loves you all the way from the cross to the empty tomb. He endured every trial that sin, death & the devil could throw at Him & now lives risen from the dead. Now He who is risen from the dead is also with you. Jesus’ love and compassion are unchanging. He guards you through faith in this living hope to fight against your discouragement and despair. Yes, this world is filled with various trials, but here is Jesus. The Living One is with you. Jesus is with you in this Word that you read. He is with you in this Word you hear. Today, Jesus comes to you here in Inglis to encourage you in trials. The confessional documents of our church describe divine service as “Faith wrestling against despair.” (Power & Primacy of Pope, 44)
