Last Sunday was Rev. Kate's last Sunday with us. She shared the service with her husband, Rev. Neil Young, after which, Marcia presented Rev. Kate with a scarf from Scotland and a small oil lamp as a remembrance of her time at St. John's

Sue Sibley and Drew Leverette attended a June 25 Community Information Session offered by the North Halton Hospice. St. John’s should be delighted to know that our own member Janette Panhuis is now part of the new Board of Directors for the Townsend Smith Foundation. We learned that the target date to begin construction of the 10 bed hospice is Fall 2028. Before that can begin, 75% of the expected $20 million construction cost must be in place. Having already spent $1.3 million on the purchase of the Hillcrest UC property, the hospice currently has in place $5 million in capital funds. A major capital campaign will soon begin in earnest. While the original 2024 plans kept the church sanctuary, further review found that adapting the 1960’s structure was more costly and complex than anticipated. New architectural renderings were revealed showing a totally new build structure that will be positioned towards the rear of the property. Space for worship and community meetings will be provided on the second floor at the front of the building. The room’s stained glass panels will overlook the Trafalgar Road entrance.

Yesterday we shared a great service at St. Andrew's United Church. Rev. Kate opened with a reminder of National Indigenous People's Day and Pride Month, the sermon topic (the Trinity) was decided months earlier through bidding at a charity auction, there was a lovely duet by two members of the choir, we shared communion and enjoyed the handbell choir twice!

Last week there was a leak in the watermain that runs under our back parking lot entrance. The town was on the job and had it fixed in time for our Sunday Service. Thanks to all involved!
