On June 14- 3 Indigenous Taiwanese Master weavers who were in Canada to meet up with the curator of Chinese and Taiwanese artifacts at the ROM ( Royal Ontario Museum) also included Oxford County in their visit. The textiles had been donated to the ROM by George Leslie MacKay. The weavers were very excited to see the textiles as up to this time the had been reproducing the designs from photos.
The weavers, the curator from the ROM, and a videographer who is making a documentary stopped at Knox Embro for a coffee break. They presented 2 woven coasters and an owl to the church in appreciation.

Planning Time for Something New:

We want Knox to continue to be viable and visible here in the Embro and Zorra Community. We want to be known by our members and the community at large as a place that demonstrates love and caring to all. Our Longterm Viability Committee has come up with 2 possible initiatives at Knox that could help meet these goals.

"Supper with Friends" Project
The idea: Start a regular night where anyone can come and enjoy supper at the Knox church. Just a simple meal in the company of others. It would be great for those who are tired of eating alone, for those needing a balanced, homecooked meal, for those who need to stretch their grocery budget, for those who just can't face cooking for the family that night. There will be chances for those having the suppers to help with food prep and/or make a small donation toward the costs.

"The Food Cupboard" Project
The idea: Rising prices and other economic challenges are making it difficult for more people to make ends meet each month. This project could provide a food basket for families in real need here in Embro. Knox people would work with another agency in Oxford that has the food resources already available, and we would need to arrange pickups for a set number of baskets weekly.

Come to the Startup Meeting Mon June 22: To start up these projects, we are looking for a few people prepared to invest a bit of time during the summer and early fall to investigate, make a plan and organize how these projects could startup.
A planning meeting to begin this work is set for Monday June 22 at 7:30 . If you feel you have some time and skills to work on this, please come and lend your support. If you are interested, but can't attend on June 22, contact Sue Garner at [email protected] . And thanks to those who shared comments after the worship service - your enthusiasm is contagious.

A lovely Community bridal shower was held on Sunday June 7 at Knox United to celebrate Mia and Cian. The hall was beautifully decorated; the shower lunch was delicious, and the happy couple were most gracious. Mia is the church's pianist/organist. We all look forward to welcoming Mia’s parents when they arrive from Japan to attend the July wedding.
