New Post!

Scripture has called the greatest love story ever told. But what if it wasn’t just a love story? What if we viewed Scripture as the greatest coming out story ever told? How would that change how we see God, and how the Church loved q***r Christians?

In Christ, we have the coming out of God.

“You can stand behind your creeds, confessions and your catechisms. You can default to denominational standards and even use words like infallibility and inspired word of God. But just know all of that is loaded with perspectives and ideologies that may or may not be truth.”

BOOK GIVE AWAY - NOW FOR FACEBOOK

Intersectional Theology by Grace Ji-Sun Kim and Susan M. Shaw is an amazing book that demonstrates the need for us to use intersectional thinking as a lens to interpreting Scripture. In this book they delve into what intersectionality is, the history of intersectional thinking, and then how intersectionality can be applied to the theologian, and the Biblical text.
I think that this should be required reading for all theology courses.

The draw will be taking place THIS Friday July 3 at 7 PM MST.

“We need more and diverse people around the table to help interpret and understand this ancient biblical text and make it applicable to our lives today.”
In their book, Intersectional Theology, Grace Ji-Sun Kim and Susan M. Shaw wonderfully write about how theology needs to be intersectional. Not only do they clearly explain what intersectionality is, but they show the practical applications of using intersectionality as method to interpret the biblical text.
In order for us to understand and interpret Scripture today we need a diverse group of people to read and interpret alongside, and sometimes for, us. For too long, theology has been the product of—primarily—old, white, heterosexual, cisgendered men.
We need to de-centralize this from our understanding of God, and hold the tensions of the lived experiences of people who live at differing intersections.
If Scripture is the word of God, then it is the word of God for ALL people and our interpretation of Scripture needs to reflect that.

“Spiritual abuse is real. It needs to stop.”
Spiritual abuse is complex, and yet simple. It is the use of a spiritual leader’s power/authority to undermine, denigrate and control another person. It can include other forms of abuse as a way to do this, like emotional abuse. It can also be a non-spiritual leader using God as a way to control others to do what that person wants.
We need to speak up when we see spiritual abuse happen. Spiritual abuse can seep into our practical application of theology when one refuses to acknowledge differences, and seeks to control others through the use of theology. It is sometimes subtle, and hard to point out.
