FEAST OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
Exodus 34:4-6,8-9 | 2 Cor 13:11-13 | John 3:16-18
After the celebration of Pentecost, the church leads us to celebrate a communion of Persons who have loved us into being; redeemed us from ourselves and who call us each day to a deeper knowledge, fuller experience, and closer union with them: The Most Holy Trinity. Scriptures help us to know who our God is, how God relates to us and how we are to respond to him in our daily lives. We are made in the image and likeness of a triune God and that makes our relationship with him to be personal.
The mystery of the Trinity provides us with the knowledge that God is All Powerful, and God is All Loving. In the Exodus account when Moses encounters God he begins by asking him, “show me your glory, I pray (33:18).” Moses is allowed to see God’s goodness pass before him without seeing God’s face. “For no one shall see me and live (3:19-20).” Everything beautiful, powerful, loving, desirable hoped for, is contained in his name.
In the gospel reading, Jesus describes God as loving” “God so loved the world…” Here we are called to pause for a moment and grasp the significance of the historical fact of God’s love on the cross. From the cross we get to see the Holy Trinity working together to accomplish the work of redemption. God is indeed interested in us and involves himself in our life and our history. In Jesus we have the proof that God’s love and faithfulness came to free us from our guilt and the gift of eternal life is offered to us!
All this says to us that God is alive and active. He is relational. He is the union and communion of persons. He is love; from whom, in whom and through whom all things exist. We share in the eternal exchange of love that is God. He is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
