St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church Dunnville

St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church Dunnville A Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of St. Catharines & established in 1886. We invite you to visit us at Mass! St. It is without a doubt that St.

Sundays 8:30am & 10:30am, Saturdays 5:00pm & daily (except Mondays) 9:00am Michael’s traces its history back to 1848 when the first Mass was celebrated. From that time on Dunnville remained a permanent mission of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Caledonia until 1886 when the cornerstone of this church was laid and Father James Crinion named the first pastor. The parish community continued to grow

with more faithful settling in the area and resident priests being changed from time to time. With involvement and financial donations from parishioners the following buildings were constructed to meet the demands of the times: St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School and the Monsignor O’Reilly Parish Centre. Michael’s continues to exist because of the dedication of faithful members in the parish community who have been a blessing throughout all these 139 years. The original parishioners held on dearly to their faith and handed it down to the generations after them. As disciples of these times, it is our duty to make sure that our faith does not die with us; that we continue the legacy left behind by those who came before us by handing it down to future generations. With various tools of communication and evangelization, we hope our page will be an additional means and place to help us to grow as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and hand down our precious faith. The Jubilee Year of 2025 years of Christianity gives us the opportunity to go forward professing with pride our faith in Jesus and become welcoming agents of his message of love and salvation. We are pilgrims of hope, bringing the faith and hope we have in Jesus to others. Office Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 12:30- 3:30 pm

FEAST OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
Exodus 34:4-6,8-9 | 2 Cor 13:11-13 | John 3:16-18

After the celebration of Pentecost, the church leads us to celebrate a communion of Persons who have loved us into being; redeemed us from ourselves and who call us each day to a deeper knowledge, fuller experience, and closer union with them: The Most Holy Trinity. Scriptures help us to know who our God is, how God relates to us and how we are to respond to him in our daily lives. We are made in the image and likeness of a triune God and that makes our relationship with him to be personal.

The mystery of the Trinity provides us with the knowledge that God is All Powerful, and God is All Loving. In the Exodus account when Moses encounters God he begins by asking him, “show me your glory, I pray (33:18).” Moses is allowed to see God’s goodness pass before him without seeing God’s face. “For no one shall see me and live (3:19-20).” Everything beautiful, powerful, loving, desirable hoped for, is contained in his name.

In the gospel reading, Jesus describes God as loving” “God so loved the world…” Here we are called to pause for a moment and grasp the significance of the historical fact of God’s love on the cross. From the cross we get to see the Holy Trinity working together to accomplish the work of redemption. God is indeed interested in us and involves himself in our life and our history. In Jesus we have the proof that God’s love and faithfulness came to free us from our guilt and the gift of eternal life is offered to us!

All this says to us that God is alive and active. He is relational. He is the union and communion of persons. He is love; from whom, in whom and through whom all things exist. We share in the eternal exchange of love that is God. He is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

SOLEMNITY OF PENTECOST
Acts 2:1-11/1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13/John 20:19-23

The Book of Acts describes in detail the miraculous transformation that took place when the Holy Spirit descended upon apostles. The event fulfilled Jesus’ promise to his apostles that they would receive “Power from on high.” When “tongues as of fire” rested on the disciples, immediately, men who were frightened began to proclaim the Good News of salvation with strong conviction. What was manifested was the fact that everyone was able to understand the Apostles’ proclamation “in his own tongue.”

The Church speaks in the tongues of all people of every race, culture, and nationality. Of all the diversities in humanity the Church speaks with a common language because she utters God’s only and unitary Word. What was confusion of tongues which began at the Tower of Babel is reversed by the miracle of the tongues. What makes the Church the opposite of the Tower of Babel is because She is built by God, not by human hands.

The Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles empowered them to bear witness to Christ by their sharing love and strong Faith. St. Paul refers to varieties of gifts given to the church as outcome of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to it. The gifts are granted to reside in different persons like apostles, prophets, teachers, healers and are in different forms such as prophecy, teaching, healing, and speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit activates Christians with these gifts and charisms to use them for the common good and for building up of the body of Christ, the Church.

John the evangelist reminds us that Jesus’ breathing upon the apostles and saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit” is meant to empower us to carry on the mission inaugurated by Christ to preach the Gospel to all nations. The feast of Pentecost should remind us that we called to action, to love and forgive as we have been loved and forgiven. We pray together today’s Sequence as we invite the Holy Spirit, Veni Creator Spiritus, asking Him to come to us as we choose to let his presence transform our lives.
