200 years ago today - our community began a Christian Church
The Church in Haldimand (page 2 of the minute book is from the Baptist Archives at McMaster)

At a meeting held in this place, five persons felt it to be their duty to be baptised and acknowledged a Christian Church. Eld. John T. Baily waited upon them on the twentieth day of October in one thousand eight hundred and twenty six. The Brethren agreed to have their Fellowship meetings on the last Saturday in each month.

The conditions of our union in Church fellowship were: No creed but the Bible - no name but Christian - no test of church fellowship but Christian character. Bro. Joseph Blackman and Bro. Isaac C. Goff, then unordained, were present. Bro. Blackman made the book of records. The five persons baptised were Sisson Bradley, William Noble, Mary Dubois, Lovica Allen, and Araminitee Bradley.

Eld. Elijah Shaw passed through the township some time in the fall of 1825, on his way East, but we heard no more of the "Newlights" (as some called them) until the spring of 1826, the year the Church was organized.

During the interum there had been a powerful reformation among the close communion or Calvenist Baptists - from 40 to 50 baptised in the same neighborhood, and we, of course, had but a poor chance; but we progressed gradually.

We find on the records seventy names, of which 10 ae dead, 23 removed, 13 dropped; this line at a distance, so that they seldom attend public worship here.

There are two ordained Ministers in connection with the Church. There has been seven Deacons chosen in the church, two only are remaining, and a Scribe.

Mr. Harry Van Everdingen of Port Hope served Eddystone as lay-pastor from 1957 to 1960. There were 5 baptisms in the creek at Gordon Harnden’s farm.
In 1961, Mr. Van Everdingen was instrumental in securing a bell from C. N. Railways for the belfry. The Church Sanctuary walls were papered and the woodwork painted by Mr. Max Creighton.

1978 photos of the sanctuary decorated with fruit, vegetables, corn stalks and leaves gathered by the Young People's group. It was always a fun evening setting up the displays throughout the church.
