This book offers a compelling and original rethinking of social justice at a moment of global uncertainty and transformation. Tracing the emergence and evolution of modern social justice discourse, it addresses two fundamental questions: what ends should we aspire toward, and what means are most effective in pursuing them? Moving beyond familiar critiques of injustice, the authors identify a shared, though often implicit, horizon that diverse traditions of thought all orient toward: contributive justice. This positive vision of social justice centers on the creation of social conditions that enable every individual and group to develop their capacities to contribute meaningfully to collective flourishing.

Drawing on a wide range of philosophical, historical, and empirical sources, the book critically examines the strategies that have shaped social justice movements. It argues that, in the current transitional period, contentious and oppositional approaches are reaching a point of diminishing returns. In their place, the authors propose radical constructive agency: purposeful, collective efforts to build new social forms and institutions capable of supplanting anachronistic and unjust ones.

At the core of the Bahá’í teachings is the belief that as humans we are both physical and spiritual beings. The Bahá’í writings present a holistic vision of healing that acknowledges this dual nature. Today is National Indigenous People’s Day

Falling on the summer solstice, this day also holds spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples.

Roger Gray’s carving titled Summer Guardian represents the sun, the life-giver of all living things, encircled by human figures, the “Summer Guardians”. These guardians embody our ancestors, symbolizing the profound connection we share with the sun, which is envisioned as an all-seeing force that watches over us to ensure our warmth and safety.

Gray—born in Prince Rupert, B.C. and raised in Port Simpson, B.C.—is a member of the Tsimshian Ginadoiks Tribe, belonging to the Lax Kw'alaams native band.

Aujourd’hui, c’est la Journée nationale des peuples autochtones.

Cette journée coïncide avec le solstice d’été, une date importante pour de nombreux peuples autochtones d’un point de vue spirituel et culturel.

La sculpture de Roger Gray, intitulée Summer Guardian, représente le soleil, source de vie de tous les êtres vivants. Il est entouré de figures humaines, les « gardiens de l’été ». Ces gardiens symbolisent nos ancêtres et notre profond lien avec le soleil. On le considère comme une force omnisciente qui veille sur nous pour nous garantir chaleur et sécurité.

M. Gray est né à Prince Rupert, en Colombie-Britannique, et a grandi à Port Simpson, dans la même province. Il est membre de la tribu Tsimshian Ginadoiks, qui fait partie de la bande autochtone des Lax Kw'alaams.
