Superintendent Garth E. Rolle and the officers and members of The Bahamas Baptist Union of Churches (BBU) extend heartfelt condolences to the immediate family and extended church family of Reverend Dr. Charles W. Saunders, who passed away on January 28, 2022.
A pillar of strength in the religious community Dr. Saunders made numerous contributions in the educational development of the country, where he held numerous posts in the public service. The calling on his life to advance the gospel of Christ allowed him to lead numerous individuals to the Kingdom of God, where he also pastored the congregation of the Salem Union Baptist Church for approximately 39 years. He also served as President of the Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention for seventeen (17) years, but one of his treasured contributions was the continuity of the Bahamas Baptist Union of Churches, where he served as its fourth Superintendent for 32 years.
A man for all seasons, a highway and a school have been named in his honor. The recipient of numerous awards, achievements and recognitions both locally and internationally, Dr. Saunders’ steps were ordered by God, and his footprints in the sands of time will remain for future generations to see.
Condolences are extended to his immediate family, including his Widow: Victoria, Daughter: Cyprianna, Sons: Byron & Emmett, and Grand-children: Victoria & Jason. Also to his extended family, and loved ones near and far. We mourn with hope that we will one day see our brother again, and we are grateful for the life he has lived. Sleep on Rev and take your rest, for your labour was not in vain.
