Today is Trinity Sunday, when the Church gives thanks for the mystery of the one God as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

As we worship the Holy Trinity, we remember that the mission of the Church flows from the life of the triune God.

In the Gospel, the risen Christ sends his disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture reading: Matthew 28:18–20

‘And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”’

Prayer

Holy Trinity,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
draw us more deeply into your life of love.
Shape us as people of communion,
sent to witness to your grace among all nations.
Guide your Church in faith, hope and love,
and help us to trust the promise of Christ,
who is with us always.

Amen.

Our prayers are with our sisters and brothers in Lille 🙏

I stand with my brother in Christ, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, in his courageous call for a kingdom of peace.

As I prepare to visit Rome later this month to meet and pray with Pope Leo, I am mindful of his call to keep our eyes open to the suffering of the world, and our gaze fixed on our crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ – the image of the invisible God, in whose image and likeness every human being is made. In him, we recognise that we are children of the one Father and members of a single human family. Prayer is not an escape from the world, nor a turning away from injustice; rather, it is a turning towards God in the midst of it, confronting evil, seeking God’s will, and becoming instruments of transformation and peace.

Christ is risen! Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, the cornerstone of Christian faith, symbolising new life and hope for all believers.

After the silence of Holy Saturday, Easter proclaims that death does not have the final word. The stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and grief is met with hope. Easter does not deny the reality of suffering, but declares that God’s life is stronger still. In the resurrection of Christ, God opens a future marked by forgiveness, renewal and joy.

Bible reading: John 20:1-9

'Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed.'

Prayer

God of life,
we praise you for the resurrection of your Son
and for the hope that cannot be overcome.
Raise us to new life with Christ,
that we may walk in joy, courage and love.
Send us out as witnesses to your grace,
bearing signs of resurrection in a wounded world.

Amen.

Anglican Easter is a 50-day liturgical season celebrating Jesus Christ's resurrection, starting with the dramatic Easter Vigil (lighting the Paschal candle in darkness) and lasting until Pentecost. It features joyous celebrations, with churches decorated in white and gold, filled with flowers, and using the greeting "Alleluia! Christ is risen!"
