Rick Fouracre wrote the following about his great great uncle James Rothwell.
"Hello. With the help of another webpage dedicated to this cemetery, I was able to receive a picture of the gravesite of my Great-Great Uncle. I would be happy to share with you, his picture to be added to your page for him to be honoured. If you have any other pictures or information on him, I, too, would greatly appreciate to hear about it."
"Based on the information I tried to accumulate, I believe his unit were moving towards Holland for Operation : Market Garden. At the time of his death, they were fighting at Wortegen. He was hit by a Sniper and the crew - family friends - reported they located and neutralised the Sniper."
"Pendlebury Trooper killed in France.
Mrs. J. Rothwell, St. John Street 8, Pendlebury, has received official notification that her husband, Tpr. James Rothwell has been killed in action in France.
Tpr. Rothwell was a member of the famous Eight Army and took part in the fighting in North Africa, Egypt, Sicily and Italy.
He went to France shortly after D-Day.
Called up in June,1940, he was 30 years of age and leaves two children. He was employed by Bloor grocers of the 'Height, and was the younger son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rothwell off Clifton.
Tpr. Rothwell attended Clifton school and his younger sister is serving in the A.T.S."
