Madhu Purnima is one of the religious festivals of Buddhists. This day is a historic and significant day in Buddhist history. This festival is celebrated on the full moon day of Bhadra month.
While the Tathagata Buddha was staying with the Bhikshu Sangha at Kosambi, a dispute arose between the Vinayadhara Panthi monks and the Sutradhara Panthi monks over a matter of modesty. When the differences of opinion between the monks on both sides became extreme, the Tathagata Buddha tried to settle their disputes. But both parties took sides in favor of their respective views; As a result, it was not possible to resolve the dispute, Buddha left Kosambi and went to the Parileya forest and spent the tenth monsoon there. During the rainy season in the Parileya forest, a solitary elephant served the Buddha every day; He used to collect forest fruits and donate them to Buddha. At that time, a monkey in the forest saw Buddha being served by Hastiraja and he also wanted to worship Buddha. On Bhadra Purnima he collects a beehive and donates it to Buddha. Because there were bee chicks and eggs in the beehive, Buddha did not drink the honey at first. The monkey realized that, took the beehive and cleaned the eggs and gave them to the Buddha again, and this time the Buddha drank the honey. Seeing that the monkey was drinking honey, he jumped from tree branch to tree branch with joy. Suddenly, due to carelessness, the branch of the tree broke and the monkey fell to the ground and was injured at the base of the tree and died. After giving honey to the Buddha and dying pleased with the Buddha, the monkey Tabatings gained the Kanak Vimana, thirty yojanas wide, and a thousand apsaras in heaven. This day is a memorable and joyous auspicious day for Buddhists due to Hastiraja serving Lord Buddha in Parileya forest and offering honey to monkeys.
