Why Do We Celebrate Shivaji Jayanti?
Shivaji Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, born on 19 February 1630 at Shivneri Fort in Pune.
He was the founder of the Maratha Empire and is remembered as a brave warrior, visionary king, and protector of Dharma. At a young age, inspired by his mother Jijabai, he dreamt of Swarajya (self-rule).
In a time when large empires ruled India, Shivaji Maharaj built an independent kingdom based on justice, good governance, respect for women, and religious tolerance.
๐ A Short Story :
As a young boy, Shivaji once stood on the hills of Shivneri and looked at the vast lands controlled by powerful rulers. His mother Jijabai told him stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata and taught him courage and righteousness.
Shivaji promised his mother that he would establish Swarajya โ a kingdom where people could live with dignity.
With just a small group of loyal friends, he began capturing forts one by one. Through intelligence, strategy, and bravery, he defeated powerful enemies. He respected saints, protected women even in war, and treated people of all religions fairly.
He was later crowned as Chhatrapati at Raigad Fort, marking the rise of the Maratha Empire.
