7 years ago today, Hashshashin released Badakhshan. Inspired by my travel around the Pamir Mountains, it has a meditative, cinematic and ritualistic sound.
It was also a period of experimentation, as I wrote and recorded these songs on guitar, irish bouzouki, Iranian setar, the Pamiri setor and the Afghan rabab.
I’m still deeply proud of this album. I’m grateful to have produced it with my friends Evan McGregor (drums, percussion, harmonium), Cam Macdonald (bass), Tim Carr (audio engineer) and Sam Harwood (artwork).
You might hear hints of Secret Chiefs 3, Om, Grails, Earth, Isis, We Lost The Sea, music from
Afghanistan, India and Iran - and who knows what else.
