Happy Feast Day everyone!! 🌿☦️

Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord, which is His final physical departure from this world following His Resurrection—it is the completion of His salvific mission as the Messianic Saviour.

Since the feast of the Resurrection grants to humanity the prize of victory over death, Christ’s Ascension lifts man up to heaven, changing his way of life on earth and making heaven accessible to him (St Athanasios the Great).

Hence, according to St Epiphanios of Cyprus, the feast of the Ascension is an embellishment of all the feasts, it is the fullness of all the feasts of the Lord.

The Troparion of the feast concisely sums up the importance of the Ascension in Christ’s earthly mission:
 🕊️”Thou hast ascended in glory, O Christ our God, granting joy to Thy disciples by the promise of the Holy Spirit. Through the blessing they were assured that Thou art the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world!” 💫

Join us for our final talk of the semester, commemorating the fall of Constantinople.

It will be presented by our esteemed Lecturer of Church History at St. Andrew’s Theological College, who will expound upon the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans and the ramifications it had, both for the preservation and perpetuation of Orthodox Christianity, juxtaposing it with what would have happened had Constantinople fallen/became a protectorate of the ‘Papal Tiara’.

Hey Everyone,

We are excited to announce that our next SOFIA event, The Gates of Metánoia (Repentance), given by our esteemed Chaplain Fr Gerasimos, will be held on Thursday 3 Apr 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lecture Theatre 315, Eastern Avenue Auditorium Theatre Complex.

This is an especially pertinent topic in the current ecclesiastical period, given that Lent is a time for increased and renewed struggle in our spiritual life, a key tenet being repentance.
