At SMCT, we care for places where people come to remember those they love. For many of our team members, these places hold personal meaning too.

This Father’s Day, we’re sharing photos of the fathers, grandfathers and father figures our team members are remembering and celebrating across our sites.

This weekend, many families will visit our cemeteries and memorial parks to remember the fathers and father figures in their lives. Whether it’s laying flowers, sharing stories or spending a quiet moment together, these visits help keep memories alive.

To all the fathers, grandfathers, mentors and father figures in our community – and to everyone holding their memories close this Father’s Day, our thoughts are with you.

🌼💛 Celebrating National Wattle Day 💛🌼
As the first signs of spring emerge, the bright blooms of wattles are lighting up our cemeteries and memorial parks.
Wattles are among Australia's most recognisable native plants and are celebrated for their resilience, diversity and connection to the Australian landscape. Across our sites, wattles provide vibrant colour, seasonal interest, and valuable food and shelter for birds, insects and other wildlife. 🐝🦋🐦 They also hold deep cultural significance for First Nations peoples and remain an important part of Australia's natural and cultural heritage. 🌿

📷 Have you spotted wattle at one of our sites? We'd love to see your photos in the comments!

Please be advised that a nationwide emergency alert test will be sent to mobile devices across Australia today at 2:00pm.

When the test is issued, compatible mobile phones, smartwatches, and tablets may vibrate, display a test message, and play a loud siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds. Please note that this will occur even if your device is set to silent.

Our cemetery grounds, services, and hospitality venues remain fully operational during this time.

If you are attending a funeral service, a scheduled appointment, or visiting a loved one's memorial around 2:00pm today, we gently encourage you to switch your devices off entirely or place them into aeroplane mode to help minimise any disruptions.

Please be aware that if you switch your device back on during or shortly after the test period, you may still receive the alert.

Our team members will be on hand across all our locations to provide support and guidance. We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a peaceful environment for all our visiting families.

For further information regarding the emergency test, please visit: https://www.ausalert.gov.au/alerts-explained/national-test

Building trust through open conversations

The better we understand our communities, the better we can serve them. It is exactly why conversations like these are a regular and vital part of our work.

Recently, we welcomed faith leaders from across South-East Melbourne for an in-depth conversation about what families from their communities truly need when it matters most.

During the visit, our Crematorium team walked our guests through the facilities with the exact same care and respect they bring to every family. One faith leader shared that the transparency of the tour completely changed how he will speak to his community about cremation.

Our Hospitality team also presented our menu options, demonstrating the high quality and warmth we provide to families during memorial services and gatherings.

We are incredibly grateful to the faith leaders who took the time to join us for this meaningful discussion. Thank you to everyone involved in making this day a success, including our Crematorium team, our Hospitality team, and our Chief Executive Officer, Ingrid Harvey.
