Type O Media Appeal - Key Messages

Lifeblood is appealing for type O blood donors to book a donation in the next two weeks.
An extra 500 donors are needed to donate O negative and O positive every day nationally to boost supplies for patients in need.
Lifeblood’s type O blood stocks are at their lowest point in a year.
Demand for both O blood types is continuing to increase, despite more people donating than ever before.
Just 7% of the Australian population has O negative blood but it makes up 16% of hospital orders because it’s the universal blood type.


40% of the population have O positive blood, which means it’s the type most needed by patients.
1 in 2 people in Australia have type O blood, so there’s a good chance you or someone you know will have it.
