Raised in a Protestant family, Candice was drawn to the tradition of Orthodoxy. From her very first visit, she was welcomed by the whole parish - she walked in a stranger but the parish made her family. In her words, she has “never felt so welcomed and embraced.”

This is what our mission is about. We are not simply raising funds for a building. We are creating a home where more people like Candice can grow in faith, draw closer to God, and belong to a loving church family. As an Orthodox mission church praying in English, our doors are open to all of Australia and to the whole world.

We belong to one body in Christ. When a single parish grows, the whole Church grows with it - every soul drawn closer to God is a victory we all share. That is why we invite you, not just to witness our mission, but to be part of it.

Vivian was raised in a Buddhist family and drawn to the Orthodox faith after meeting her husband, Chris. The more she read and researched, the more she was captivated by the beauty and depth of Orthodoxy.

After they married, Vivian and Chris attended an Armenian Orthodox church. Although they loved it, the liturgy was entirely in Armenian, making it difficult to fully understand and grow in their faith.

When they found St Mary of Egypt, the liturgy was fully in English, allowing them to follow along and fully appreciate its depth. Today, they both pray the responses, sing, and serve as active members of our parish family.

When people can truly understand the faith, lives are transformed.

As a mission church we invite you not just to support that mission, but to share in it. As Christians, we are called to bring others not only to Christ, but into a living, breathing relationship with Him.

Not long ago, Zac was an atheist searching for truth.

Today, he is a baptised Christian, a deacon, and a much loved member of our parish family.

His story is a reminder of why the Church matters.

As Christians, we are all called to bring people to Christ. When one church is strengthened, the whole Church is strengthened. Through God’s grace, our parish is seeing lives transformed, people baptised, and hearts renewed.

We are not simply raising funds for a building. We are creating a home where more people like Zac can encounter Christ, grow in faith, and become part of a loving church family.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” — Matthew 28:19

Humility Month – Week Four: The Mind of Christ

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 2:5

This week, we turn to St John Chrysostom, the “Golden Mouth”, who reminds us that true humility begins in the mind and heart being shaped by Christ Himself.

To have the mind of Christ is to reject pride, judgement, self-importance and selfish desire, and instead learn the way of voluntary self-emptying: kenosis.

Christ humbled Himself, became obedient, and carried the cross for our salvation. If we are to follow Him, we must learn to make ourselves small before God, bow our heads, and look upon His cross.

Throughout this week, each daily challenge invites us to practise humility not only through outward actions, but through the hidden movements of our thoughts, desires and intentions.

Humility Month – Week Two: Humility of Speech 🤍

“Silence is the mystery of the age to come.”

Our words have the power to heal or to wound, to build up or to tear down. This week, we’re inviting our community to slow down and let Christ shape the way we speak.

Inspired by the wisdom of St Isaac the Syrian, each day of this week brings a simple challenge to help us grow in humility through our speech:
• Speaking without gossip
• Choosing thoughtful responses over quick reactions
• Encouraging and elevating others
• Practising silence when words aren’t needed
• Speaking truth with gentleness and love

True humility isn’t only seen in what we do, it’s often revealed in what we choose not to say.

This June, we invite you to join us on a journey of humility.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. It is the path walked by Christ, who “humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:8)

Throughout this month, we will be sharing daily readings, reflections, and practical challenges to help us cultivate a humble heart before God and one another.

Whether you are new to the spiritual life or have been walking with Christ for many years, humility remains the foundation of every virtue. As the saints teach us, without humility, no spiritual growth is possible.

Join us this month as we learn to decrease, so that Christ may increase.
