There is authority in the words Christians speak out to themselves as well as others; therefore you need to watch out not only for what people say into your life, but also about the stuffs you say to your self when others have finished speaking (Proverbs 18:21).

Words like, ‘I’d love to have a better relationship but I’m afraid that if I make the first move and they don’t respond, I’ll feel rejected. I’ll love to do more studies, but afraid of not been able to cope or finish.

Until you replace your negative self-talk, you will always live in fear. Beloved, your mind is the womb of your spirit; it nurtures each seed you sow until the time of delivery. Watch out the type of self-talk that goes on within you with vigilance, self-awareness, discipline and most importantly, Scriptural programming. And when you amend your thoughts, your life will be ready for a change.

Staring from this week, serve an eviction notice to every negative thought that’s holding you back and begin to feed your mind with God’s Word.

Normally when someone describes you as ‘not of this world’ they either mean you are away with the fairies’ or lost interest in earthly amusements. The Bible gives us a strong advise that earth is not home – it’s like we are foreigners on another planet (Psalm 119: 19). Peter even advised that we should spend the rest of our time as temporary residents on earth (I Peter 1: 17); and keep away from the desires of our corrupt nature (I Peter 2:11).

However, while we are still here, we should equally endeavour to be earthly relevant by making our light to shine before all men. We must sweeten and lighten our environment, be ready to be good aroma to the society. Your impact on people’s lives should be an avenue to lay up for yourself treasures in heaven where moth and locust cannot corrupt.

Make heaven your destination, don’t make life an amusement park for your own benefit – you are breathing and living for more than just being entertained or amused. Chose the pursuit of godliness and jettison that of happen – ness. Let us ask God to always remind us that our days are numbered, and how fleeting life is; for we are not of this planet.

Redeeming the time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).

Abraham was first introduced in Genesis 11:26 and nothing was heard about him again until in Genesis 12:1-3 at the age of 75. A curious Christian will want to know what was happening in the life of this man of faith for complete 75 years and why is the Bible silent about it?

Time is of great essence to us as modern day believers in Christ. Tick! Tick! Tick! And each second that ticks away is lost forever. Abraham knew the Lord when he was 75 years old. This meant that he had shorter time to walk with God. Today, we have the benefit of knowing the Lord early, even between the age of six and ten; but of what benefit is it to the Kingdom of God? Some have been in this ‘Way’ for 10, 20 or 30 years, but have remained stagnant, fruitless and calling for God’s axe. Others have even refused to do something for the sake of their eternity. Are you not like Abraham – wasting away?

Your time could be productively used, by either putting smiles on the face other people, or use the ‘fleeting’ time to be of benefit and service in God’s house. Remember that one day; we shall all give account for the time God gave us on earth. How are you handling your free moment? Take a look at the areas you have been wasting time, put a stop to it and according to Ephesians 5:16 put every second remaining in your life into deliberate and purposeful use.

Take time to check out the label in your jacket – what do you see written there? Probably, ‘outer lining: 100% polyester, inner lining: 100% nylon. Wouldn’t it be good if it read: outer you: ‘100% approved; inner you: 100% honest’? That is the kind of tag Joseph carried around in his amazing ‘technicolour dream coat’. Joseph came 100% approved.

Now Jacob loved Joseph, and he made him a coat of many colours (Genesis 37:3). Like the sparkling jacket, the approval of God will cause you to ‘stand out from the crowd’; it will ‘open doors’, ‘protect and promote’ you. Psalm 5:12 says: ‘For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous, with favour You will surround him as with a shield’.

Joseph also wore the label ‘honest’ in his jacket. That word is a very scarce commodity in the Christendom now and carries a huge price tag. This was the same coat Joseph left in the hands of Potiphar’s wife when she was trying to mess around with him. He kept his honest head on; keeping his hands off what wasn’t his (Genesis 39: 11-12).

Be like Joseph; keep your hands to yourself when you are presented with opportunity to sin, and keep your mouth zipped when tempted to have a ‘good’ gossip. When your 100% honest label itches the back of your neck, use it as a reminder to do the right thing.

‘And the light shines in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not’ John 1:5.

Just as light is the opposite of darkness, so glory is the opposite of shame, failure, defeat and reproach. Reproach is a “but” in the life of someone and amazingly, everyone carries a ‘but’ around until you meet the only One who has the ability to erase it. Reproach is something that causes people to hang their heads in shame even when every other thing appears to be going well. Do you get the message in the right perspective now? Those habits, attitudes and utterances that make you to feel small and ashamed, come under the definition of reproach. It is also those things that make you to wonder if your God is alive (Psalm 115: 1-3). However, the Lord is bringing an end to that ‘but’ in your life this season in Jesus name.

God’s glory is like light that repels darkness on arrival. No matter how strong the ‘but’ in your life may be, when the glory of God comes down, all darkness in form of reproach will disappear. The issue is how to bring down the glory? You can do this effectively through praise. Psalm 22:3 says: ‘God inhabits the praises of His people. When you praise God, His enemies and by extension, all your reproaches cannot stand by.

Your praise of Him should not be mechanical, but genuine. Take stock of all His blessings, the salvation of your soul and His unflinching assistances in your moments of lost hope and start to praise Him. Suddenly, you will discover that God will send deliverance to you in the most difficult circumstance (Acts 12:6-11). Why not start praising Him now as He is prepared to shine light into that dark area of your life?

WEEKLY MANNA

‘Oh, that they were wise,… that they would consider their latter end’ Deuteronomy 32:29.

As we conclude on the need to prioritise our life and devote enough time on those things that matter most, God of heaven will empower us to strengthen what remains before we bid this world bye-bye in Jesus name.

In a survey, people of over 90 years were asked: ‘if you had your life to live over, what would you do differently?’ Three answers came out distinctively:

-I’d spend more time with my family and friends. Enjoy it while it lasts; create sufficient time to be with your wife, husband and children. Work, business, social contacts cannot give you fulfil life; when the chips are down, you will be left with your family.

-I’d take more risks. As Christians, we are not created to be mediocre. There is no discovery without risk taking. It is only those that take calculated risks that excel in life while others struggle for the crumbs at valley level.

-I’d do things that would live on after I’m gone. What godly legacy will you be remembered for in your family, community and body of Christ?

Unimportant things steal most of our time and we end up living for wrong reasons. Please, don’t live your life in a photocopy of your original. If you react to every situation and say yes to every request, you will never succeed in what you’re called to do. Listen to Paul in Acts 20:24: ‘The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me’.

Be wise, prioritise and focus on the most important thing that will count both here on earth and most importantly, in the world to come with Jesus. Others may be chasing shadows, don’t follow them, and be strategic in your Christian lifestyle because it is whatever you sow, that you will reap.

We are surrounded with so much activities that it is very easy to be so busy, but achieving nothing. By His grace, we shall be considering the issue of setting wise priorities in the next two series of weekly manna.

‘Oh, that they were wise,… that they would consider their latter end’ Deuteronomy 32:29

Do you spend your time and life on what feels good at the time, what your friends are doing, or what is wise? A smart individual will be engaged in looking ahead (be futuristic) and knowing what is the best thing to do with time and abilities you have today. Believe me honestly, you will always do something for every 24 hours in every day as it is not a matter of ‘will my day be full?’, but ‘who will fill it?’ and ‘what will it be filled with?’

The story’s told of a lighthouse man on a rocky stretch of coastline who received a new supply of oil each month to keep the light burning. A woman from the village needed some oil to keep her family warm, a farmer requested some for his tractor, a mechanic wanted some to oil a wheel. All the requests seemed legitimate; so the lighthouse keeper tried to please everybody.

Before the month was over, his oil was gone and the beacon went out. As a result, several ships were wrecked and lives were lost. When the authorities investigated, the man was very sorry. But their reply was, “you were given oil for one purpose – to keep the light burning”. Beloved, God has given you your life, talents and time for a purpose. Discover it, utilise it very well in a godly manner and the owner will be pleased with you.

David lamented, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest’ (Psalm 55:6). That is lamentation of loneliness and as an individual, when life weighs on one, there is a strong desire and yearning to fly away and be at rest too. David chronicled his ordeals: violence, oppression and strife on all sides; he was let down by old friend (Psalm 55: 8-14), fear and terror, pain and trembling, anxiety and restlessness. No wonder, he longed to fly away?

However, escape was difficult and tough, as he could not evade his lot but give them over to the Lord. He said: ‘As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud and He shall hear my voice’ (verse 16-17).

Whatever our circumstances – a challenging ministry, a difficult marriage, joblessness, health issues or a deep loneliness, you can give them to God. He has lifted the burden of our sins; will He not lift the weight of our sorrows? We have trusted Him with our eternal souls, can we not entrust our present circumstances to Him?’

Beloved, cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.

Lord, help me to listen, trust and obey you at all times.
-------------------------------------------------------------
When we insist on having something that God in His infinite wisdom is withholding from us, he will step back and allow us to have it. This is what is called permissive will. In Psalm 106, the account of the Israelites filled the chapter. They were appreciative of God’s mighty deliverance from Egypt and sang of His praise (verse 12). But not long after, they soon forgot His works and did not wait for His counsel, but lusted after mundane things and tested God in the desert. God gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul (verse 13-15). Brethren, wanting our own way can lead to big emptiness.

As God was preparing Moses to deliver His people from Egypt, he suddenly decided to do it his own way. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave and the Bible says, “He looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand” (Exodus: 2:12). Does this resonate with what sometimes happen to you?

Obviously, Moses was more concerned with people’s views than God’s opinion, so God had to take him through a lesson on waiting on Him. After Moses dug a hole and tried to hide the work of his flesh, God allowed it to be exposed. He showed him that by doing things his own way he couldn’t keep a single person buried in the sand, whereas by following God’s principles, a whole army could be buried in the depths of the Red Sea.

Our prayers therefore should be: Lord, help me to listen, trust and obey you at all times.

Sometimes we can feel small and insignificant; like our life does not count or we are not important. We can be overwhelmed with “never good enough” syndrome. But get this: God is in the business of turning insignificant thing into something amazing (remember 2 fishes and 5 loves of bread miracle in John chapter 6 and over 5,000 people were fed).

Also in Judges chapter 3, you’ll discover that ‘Shangar’ killed 600 Philistines with an ox goad’. An ox goad is a long wooden stick with a metal tip used to prod oxen. It wasn’t much; his odds weren’t good – 600:1 at best. But thanks to God, he beat the odds, saved his field, and helped the people of Israel to start trusting God again.

Beloved, God is still in the business of using base and insignificant things. So never think you are small and colourless; rather give all you have to God and know He will do something massively good in return for you.

Jesus told a story about the importance of being in relationship with His Father in Luke 15:11-32. It is all about a son asking his father for an inheritance even though dad hasn’t died. Though his action was questionable, but there is a lesson to be learnt – the young man thought us how to make a legitimate request. How I pray that many legitimate children of God will borrow from this lesson and run with it in order to stop the enemy from cheating them of their rights!

Very soon the boy’s bank account hits the red and he finds himself out on his own, far from where he used to be. Anytime we disconnect from our main source, supply will soon run dry no matter the huge level of reserves. While things were still working well for him, he was high on partying, alcohol, as a young man, girls will not be absent in his life and probably, drugs too. While all these could be identified in his life, his major undoing is: being far away from his father’s house. After all, would the boy be living a riotous life if he was in relationship with his father?

Does this describe your life also? Perhaps, the problem is not your long addiction to deviant behaviours – the real problem is you are no longer in relationship with God. So, you’ve found yourself a long way from where you should be. You’ve done things you never dreamt you’d do. It is time to leave it all behind, start those first steps back to a relationship with God. Unknown to you, He’s seen you a long way off and He wants you back home!
