In Loving Memory of Fr Stephen Fintan Cooney, O.Praem
Today we remember with gratitude **Fr Stephen Fintan Cooney, O.Praem, who entered eternal life on 9 July 2023.
Born in Tielahood, County Cavan, Ireland, on 28 February 1929, Fr Stephen was one of the founding members of the Norbertine community in Western Australia, arriving in Perth on 10 November 1959. He was clothed in the white habit of St Norbert on 8 September 1949, made his solemn profession on 8 September 1951, and was ordained to the priesthood on 2 July 1955.
Throughout his priestly ministry, Fr Stephen faithfully served the people of **York, Cunderdin, Quairading, Beverley, Brookton,and Pingelly. He also devoted many years to caring for the Norbertine property at Kerrydowns.
Fr Stephen was a priest of quiet humility and gentle kindness. Much of his ministry took place behind the scenes, where his faithful service, compassionate heart, and steadfast dedication touched countless lives. He sought no recognition, finding his greatest joy in serving God and His people with simplicity and fidelity.
May we remember Fr Stephen with gratitude for his generous witness as a Norbertine canon and priest. May Christ, whom he served so faithfully throughout his life, now welcome him into the fullness of eternal joy.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
