FOCUS stands for Fellowship of Overseas Christian University Students. We are an international student group committed to knowing Christ and making him known both at Wollongong University and throughout the world. We are committed to the faithful teaching of the Bible and its application to our lives. Our aim at FOCUS is to explain the Bible in simple English to non-native English speakers so that
they may trust Jesus as their King and Saviour, and thus be saved from God's after-death punishment which all people rightly deserve, and live godly lives to God's glory. Our main evening meetings consist of dinner, singing, prayer, Bible reading, Bible talk, question & answer time and supper. All our meetings are public and we welcome people from all backgrounds (Christian and non-Christian). We usually meet at UOW in room 24.G01 at 6:30pm for our Main Meeting to hear the bible read and taught, to pray and to encourage each other. We are the international student section of the Uni Bible Group. We are linked to both the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES) and the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES). We are a non-denominational group, but we love the bible and want to grow by understanding it. Further details of what we believe can be found on our website. Formerly called "IBM" (International Bible Ministries), our group was started at the University of Wollongong in 1996 by Richard Chin who is currently the AFES National Director. In 2009 Andrew Beddoe led FOCUS before James Kerr led from 2010 to 2014. FOCUS is currently led by Jonathan Baird who works with a group of around 12 other senior & trainee staff (including James, Matthew and Richard) under the leadership of Rob Copland to serve God's people on campus. We hope to see you soon at FOCUS!
