If you feel a need to share this week, to pray or simply to sit, join others at Mudgee Uniting Church.

Are you struggling with the news this week? There is so much information, so many images, so much talk - leaving many of us feeling that something must be done. Prayer brings the light to the darkness. Prayer brings us together. We invite you to sit, remember, pray, stop - for a little while or a long while. Our space is open to all who feel they need a time of silence, or the chance to reflect on this week.

Today marks the start of the Season of Creation, an annual invitation for Christians around the world to pray and reflect on our shared call to care for the Earth – our common home and the beloved creation of God.

This year’s theme ‘Peace with creation’ and symbol ‘Garden of Peace’ are inspired by Isaiah 32:14-18. The biblical passage envisions a war-torn, overexploited land being transformed into one that is fertile and thriving.

To commemorate the Season of Creation we’ve collated resources for you and your church to use. Find them at tinyurl.com/2025-soc

We’d love to see photos of how your community engages in this season. Send us your photos, or post them to your socials with the hashtags .

I wonder how we can adapt this idea?

I wonder how we can adapt this idea?

In Canada, a growing movement of “community fridges” is transforming sidewalks into hubs of generosity and sustainability. These brightly painted refrigerators are placed in public spaces — often outside cafes, libraries, or community centers — and are stocked by volunteers, local businesses, and neighbors. Anyone can leave fresh food, such as fruits, vegetables, bread, or prepared meals, and anyone in need can take what they require, no questions asked.

The idea is simple but powerful: fight food waste while ensuring that no one in the community goes hungry. It operates on trust, kindness, and the belief that sharing surplus food benefits everyone. Many fridges are open 24/7, making them a lifeline for people facing food insecurity, shift workers, or those simply short on groceries.

These fridges also strengthen neighborhoods, encouraging people to connect, give back, and rethink how they use food. By redistributing surplus from homes, restaurants, and markets, they not only reduce landfill waste but also promote compassion and dignity. In Canadian cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, community fridges have become colorful symbols of hope — proof that sometimes, the smallest acts of sharing can have the biggest impact.
