Our latest Surfside Newsletter is out, with plenty happening in the life of our church and community.

This week we reflect on Romans 13 and the importance of good laws and people of good character. A healthy society needs both good government and people whose lives are shaped by love, honesty, compassion and responsibility. As Paul reminds us: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

🏗️ Church in the Marketplace: Our fit-out continues to progress well. The storage cupboard is complete, cabinetry is being installed next week and plastering will soon begin. We are also seeking further financial support, particularly towards the new Venning Street entrance door. Thank you to everyone who has generously supported the project so far.

❤️ It was also wonderful to have Isaac volunteering at our Op Shop as part of his school’s Community Engagement Program. It is encouraging to see our young people experiencing firsthand the church’s work and outreach in our local community.

We also share some photos from our youth-led service last Sunday and visitors dropping by our Ministry Centre.

Some highlights from this week’s Surfside Newsletter!

🙏 This Sunday: Our readings are Psalm 105, Romans 12:9–21 and Matthew 16:21–28, with the message: “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus – No Turning Back.” We are reminded that following Jesus means letting him lead, putting him first, and allowing our faith to shape how we treat others.

👋 Welcome: It was lovely to welcome David’s sister and her husband from Tasmania back to Faith Church last Sunday. We are always grateful for those who visit us and for the friendships and fellowship we share together.

🔨 Church in the Marketplace: Work at Shop 17 continues to progress well! This week we completed the frame for the new storage cupboard, began installing gyprock on the walls and replaced damaged ceiling panels. A huge thank you to everyone who has generously supported the project. We are hoping to open in around three weeks’ time!

This week’s message asks one of the most important questions Jesus ever put to His disciples:

“But what about you? Who do you say I am?” — Matthew 16:15

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus is not simply a great teacher or prophet; He is the promised Messiah through whom God has made Himself known to us. And because Christ entered fully into human life, we know that God is not distant but is with us through the ordinary joys and challenges of life.

Ministry Centre & Faith Coffee Lounge Update:
The fit-out continues to progress well, with the floor tiling now nearly complete. A special thank you to Toalisi and Sitaleki from Siaila Faith Church, Brisbane, for their hard work and generous support.

There are still some additional costs involved in completing the fit-out to a high standard, particularly electrical, plumbing and other necessary work. If you are in a position to financially support the project, any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Above all, thank you for continuing to uphold this project in prayer as we prepare this new space to serve our church and wider community.

Another exciting week at Faith Church!

🔨 Church in the Marketplace Update
The demolition stage at our new Ministry Centre and Faith Coffee Lounge is now complete! A huge thank you to Steve and our volunteers Paul, Salesi, Sam, Kotoni and Tevita for their hard work. This week we move on to preparing and tiling the floor, followed by new gyprock walls, painting and the next stages of the fit-out.

🙏 This Sunday – “Radical Welcome and a Call to Radical Commitment”

From Isaiah 56, we are reminded of God’s wonderful invitation to all people. His house is to be a place where everyone is genuinely welcomed, while also being faithfully pointed towards Christ. This is the vision we want to carry into our new Faith Coffee Lounge — genuine hospitality and opportunities for conversations about God, prayer, Jesus and faith.
