We’re starting a four-week course in Jewish philosophy and ethics on Sunday 1st November.

Each week's topic is drawn out of a real-life case study in medical ethics and argued through authentic Jewish texts in the original Hebrew, with translation.

As always, we’ll use these classes to build our Hebrew reading and comprehension.

Beginners and advanced learners are both welcome; basic Hebrew reading will help but isn’t a deal-breaker.

Robust debate and deep thinking encouraged.

As we reach the final days of the Yom Tov season, we come together for Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah — days of memory, reflection, joy and hope.

On Shemini Atzeres, we will gather for Yizkor, remembering our loved ones and the victims of 7 October 2023.

Then, on Simchas Torah, we turn again towards life and hope.

On Saturday night, we will open the Ark, take out all our Torah scrolls, and sing and dance with them. We especially invite families and children, as well as all those who remain children at heart, to join us for our Simchas Torah Eve Family Torah Celebration.

That is Jewish hope: always ready to begin again.

It was raining last night, so as per chazal, we did not eat in our amazing Sukkah 😭

Not to worry: we had an amazing night of food, friends, lulav and esrog inside our sanctuary with .diner 🙏

The winds blow. The walls may shudder. Our sukkah still stands.

For almost two thousand years, the sukkah has been a symbol of both fragility and endurance — of community, faith and the shelter we create together.

For this New Year in particular, we thought it would be nice to paraphrase a beautiful New Year’s blessing we stumbled across, inspired by the Arizal, the great master of Jewish mysticism, and translated by Miriam Del Banco:

We hope that this year brings a sacred gentleness
to your life’s movements;

A year in which the noise of vain endeavours is softened;

A year whose soulful glow charges
your meaningful hopes and longings,
crowning them with Divine light;

A year in which you delight, for the sake of His Name,
in sweet things.

Shanah Tovah u'Metukah!
