Lakes Entrance Theos(an initiative of Scripture Union Vic) started in 2011 in response to a request by local people to provide a drug and alcohol free safe space for the youth and young adults of Lakes Entrance. Lakes Theos has been running for 4 consecutive summers over the Christmas/Newyears period with both local and interstate volunteers. Our local Volunteers Daniel and Holly Carlisle, togeth
er with the unified support of local churches and many local businesses, have continued to open the Theos shed fortnightly and will continue to do all year round. Theos aims to provide a safe and positive environment for youth and young adults to hang, while enjoying free activities such as pool, basketball, games, tabletennis, music, hot drinks and food while having company and an alcohol/drug free zone. Our volunteers are all childsafe trained and passionate to see youth and young adults welcomed in a chilled out environment and keen to get to know the people of lakes and whats important to them while sharing life and faith. Theos All Year is a free chill space run fortnightly in Lakes Entrance. We aim to provide a relaxed, fun and safe space with acitivities and themed nights. We have been grateful for local imput provided by participants and taken suggestions to provide temporary lighting at the skatepark on some of our nights. Theos is not limited to the Slipway sheds on the Esplanade but aim to connect with the community in positive ways where young people feel comfortable and engaged. Theos won the Local Event of the Year in 2014 with the support of the local community and East Gippsland shire council. Lakes Theos aims to provide a hangout safe space whilst allowing kids to come and go as they please. Theos doesn't not require a sign in and out form and therefore parents/guardians are responsible for making sure their kids are aware of the parents expectations of whether they come or go during the program. Whilst youth are in the Theos sheds and yard safety and childsafe policies will be maintained but Theos cannot be responsible for those that are coming and going. Theos does not offer youth drop off unless it is determined unsafe for someone to be walking home and has not alternative. Theos will then ask the youth to provide a phone contact to text for permission before driving the person home.
