Celebrating the impact our people have on vulnerable children and families.
This Queensland Child Protection Week, we are proud to celebrate two outstanding Churches of Christ QCPW Award winners whose commitment, compassion and determination are making a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people across Queensland.

Foster carers Helen and Kevin Wood - Winner, Volunteer Award
Presented by Telstra General Manager Jimmy Doukas

Helen and Kevin have been opening their hearts and home to children since 1997, providing stability, safety and unwavering support to some of the most vulnerable young people in their community. Their remarkable commitment has touched the lives of more than 15 children, creating a legacy that extends far beyond their role as foster carers.

Foster and Kinship Care Far North Qld team - Winner, Regional Program Award
Presented by PeakCare Queensland CEO Kelly Jebb

Working across Cape York and Far North Queensland, Justin, Kelly, Tina, and Service Manager Karen are committed to ensuring children and families receive equitable access to support, regardless of location, advocating for children, empowering carers and continually adapting their services to overcome the challenges of distance and isolation.

While their contributions look different, both award winners share a common purpose: ensuring children and young people feel safe, supported, connected and valued.

Please join us in congratulating our outstanding award winners.

The Waiting Isn't Wasted

There's a particular tension in waiting. Not the passive, arms-crossed kind, but something more like a bow pulled tight, string taut, arrow set, holding for the right moment to release.

That's the picture behind the Hebrew word for waiting in Isaiah 40:31: qavah. Not idle. Active trust.

Next time you're caught in the in-between, ask what God might be preparing you for.

Recently, we celebrated NAIDOC Week in Eidsvold. Children stopped by the stall to pick out activities and families paused for a chat, creating a warm atmosphere that welcomed both Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members.

We gave away 10 Bibles, around 30 gift bags, painted wooden crosses and connected with children, families, the local community, and two police officers even stopped by.

Thank you to everyone who visited, volunteered, and helped make the day such a positive and memorable occasion.

Recently, word got around the youth group at Southport Church of Christ about a toy drive supporting foster children. Within a week, toys, games, activities and small thoughtful gifts began arriving.

Together, the youth group packed them into gift bags, then added personal handwritten notes in every single one. Just a few lines, enough to remind a child they're valued and thought of.

Thank you to the Southport youth group for your generosity and care. 💛

To be part of the toy drive, drop your donations at your local Churches of Christ location.

MYTH or TRUTH?
Homelessness is often misunderstood. This Homelessness Week, we're busting three common myths:

✅ Truth: Most people experiencing homelessness are "hidden" rather than sleeping rough. They may be couch surfing, staying in crisis accommodation, living in tents or caravans, or moving between overcrowded homes.

❌ Myth: If someone just "got a job", they wouldn't be homeless. In reality, 15% of people experiencing homelessness are employed, proving that work alone doesn't guarantee housing security in today's cost-of-living crisis.

❌ Myth: Homelessness can't happen to me. Unfortunately, anyone can face homelessness following circumstances such as illness, job loss, relationship breakdown, family violence, or other unexpected life events.

Homelessness can affect people from all walks of life, often much closer to home than we realise. By understanding the realities behind the myths, we can build greater compassion and support for those doing it tough.
