Geelong Eastern Cemetery Stolen Ornaments further update:
Geelong Cemeteries Trust have been working closely with the Geelong Police regarding the recovery of the stolen ornaments from the Geelong Eastern Cemetery.
After a full inspection of the Cemetery, the thefts appear to be localised to the Orthodox Sections located along the Boundary Rd side of the Cemetery.
Geelong Police have catalogued all of the recovered items and returned them to the Geelong Cemeteries Trust.
At the conclusion of the current lockdown, we at the Geelong Cemeteries Trust will be facilitating a day where affected families are able to view the recovered items to identify and collect their belongings.
Upon collection, families will be required to complete a collection of property form. These forms will then be passed to the Geelong Police to be included in their report.
Any damage that has been incurred to the monuments/memorials in place at the gravesite can also be reported at this time.
We understand that this is very distressing to all affected families and do hope that we can reunite families with the recovered items as soon as possible.
Unfortunately this is not something we can do during the current lockdown period but will endeavour to keep everyone updated with a view of facilitating this day as soon as it is both legal and safe to do so.
