Pillar 4: a community of joy & creativity

Let's read Neh 12:27- 43 , 1 Thess 5:16 & Phil 4:4-20.

Sometimes I feel like God is like a reverse Russian doll. You start off small, only with a dim understanding of God & then every day we realise something new. As we come to know God more, so His place in our life becomes greater & greater.

Joy too never gets stale or old when it is centred in God. God continues to fill us with His joy when we come to Him. It's not once & done - I had joy back then. It's not God that has changed.... Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS.

Worship God, bringing your personal circumstances in prayer. Allow God to turn your anxious thoughts into prayers.

The sound of joyful worship could be heard from far away. What an amazing celebration!

Pray for God’s joy to fill Missionhouse & that we will serve Him at our creative best. May each person who enters the space find great joy in Jesus.
May Phil 4:12-13 be more & more our story at Missionheart & in the Missionhouse community of discipleship.

A community of sharing

Let's read Matt 6:19-24, Acts 4:32-36 & Jn 17:20-25.

Have you ever had something & found it wonderful & satisfying? & then your head does a weird thing, deciding that if something is good then even more will be better. We can do this with food, possessions, habits or even friendships. A very subtle shift kicks in from forming habits that help us survive to habits that control. Artery plaque caused by a poor diet shrinks the space for blood to flow within the body & can eventually be fatal

When Jesus is our treasure, then everything flourishes & the Holy Spirit flows. We share our time, talents & our physical resources. We want Jesus' best for eachother. Community flourishes!

Let's worship God & ask Him to show us anywhere we are limiting the flow of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for the people that God brings to mind.

Ask God for a word to encourage people in our community., especially the Live-in team and their families at Missionhouse.

Pray that there will be great hunger for God & for people to be drawn to the Missionhouse community, sharing their time, skills, experiences, feelings, resources & encouragement. May God provide whatever Missionhouse needs to operate.

The Workers in the Vineyard
Week 11 Midweek Devotional from Nick

We all live by stories.
Stories about success. Stories about fairness. Stories about what we deserve.
One of the strongest stories in our culture is this: work hard, earn your reward. Effort should lead to recognition. Performance should lead to success. People should get what they deserve.
There is truth in that story. Society couldn't function without it…

Pillar 2 : a community of opportunity

Let's read Isa 43:16-19, 2 Corinthians 10:1-5 and John 14:1-18.

Knitting is wonderful but sometimes the wool becomes tangled. It can take hours and is a real test of patience and endurance.

Sometimes, life becomes just plain messy and it feels just impossible to know where hope lies. But God knows.

We may be in a hard place because of sin and poor choices or in a time of loss or grief or health challenges. But God will make a way.

Let's turn to God who we can trust with everything. What is God showing you? If he is revealing sin, confess it and repent. Bring your circumstances to Him now. Linger now in prayer and allow God to show you the new thing glimmering on the horizon.

Let's pray for the new thing that God is doing. Pray for the people God draws to Missionhouse, for fresh starts, the past not dictating the future. May MIssionhouse be a community ushering in God’s possibilities, each person belonging, contributing & celebrated.

In our final week of prayer for Missionhouse, we will pray through the pillars of Missionhouse.

Pillar 1: MIssionhouse - a strong community of faith

Let's read from Acts 2:42-47 and Rev 3:14-20. What stands out to you as you read two very different churches?

If we were asked to choose which church we want to be part of, there's no contest is there? But the second church is a descendent of the first church.

I once visited a theatre in Melbourne that had been closed up for 25 years. We walked around in torch light. 25 years of dust is really something - thick, drab and dirty!

Over time stuff happens and unless we make a deliberate choice to repent, sin begins to mount up. Life choices become harder and harder.

The letter to the Laodicean church presents both the problem and the solution.

Worship God. Read Rev 3:19-20 again. Let's turn afresh to Jesus and invite Him in.

If God is showing you something, act on it!

Pray for:
God to guide, refresh and protect our Live-in Team ( Jason and Kelly and Stew and Bec) and their families
Jn 10:10 for the Live-in Team - abundance in all aspects of their lives
God to draw new members of the Live-in Team, for God to prepare those people – God's choice of people in His timing

The Rich Fool
Midweek Devotional from Kelly

Luke 12: 13-21 The Parable of the Rich Fool
A random man in the crowd asked Jesus to tell his brother to divide the inheritance with him. Jesus saw through his reasons for asking and said, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.'
Jesus knew his problem was greed. So in response Jesus told a parable about a rich man who had a bumper crop and built more barns to hold his crops, thinking he would have plenty of grain and could then sit back and relax. But that night his life was taken from him, leaving behind all his wealth...
