Last weekend we held a fundraiser at Palace Cinemas for the film screening of Venizelos, we’re all money raised went to the Greek School of Canberra.

On Sunday His Grace Bishop Athinagoras of Canberra held the Sunday liturgy service where we commemorated the 90 year anniversary of the passing of Elefterios Venizelos. After that we went to the Saint Basils facility for a luncheon.

Over the weekend we were grateful to have special guests present with us and showing their support including The Ambassador of Greece to Australia, His Excellency Mr Stavros Venizelos, Deputy High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Australia, Mr Nikos Varellas, and the Military Attaché of Greece in Canberra, Mr Kyriakos Kyriakakos.

A special thank you to the President of the Oceania Branch of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” Mr Tony Tsourdalakis, for helping organise the film screening and providing gifts at the luncheon.

Finally, a special thank you to our film screening sponsor, YSP Lending, for their generous support in helping us raise funds for the Greek School of Canberra.

Monthly check in with GEL

In May, GEL worked hard behind the scenes organising Trivia Night to raise money for the St Nicholas Greek School of Canberra. The committee, with GOCCC’s guidance, put in countless hours into making it a fun and memorable evening for the community.

GEL also continued their Greek School volunteering program, which involved helping the teachers in the classroom, making sure all the kids are fed, and helping create a positive environment that encourages the upcoming generation to continue fostering the Greek language and culture in Canberra.
