The Anglican Church Southern Queensland stretches from Bundaberg in the north to Coolangatta in the south and west to the South Australian and Northern Territory borders. This half a million square kilometre area has a population of approximately 4 million people, of which about 500,000 are Anglicans. The Mission of the Anglican Church Southern Queensland is the Mission of Christ: to proclaim the

good news of the Kingdom of God. About 450 clergy form an integral part of our faith community with Archdeacons, Canons, Priests and Deacons providing spiritual support and practical care across more than 130 parishes, as well as schools and ministries. Our Archbishop is The Most Rev’d Jeremy Greaves, who is assisted by The Right Rev’d Cam Venables, Bishop for the Western Region; The Right Rev’d Sarah Plowman, Bishop for the Northern Region; and, The Right Rev’d John Roundhill, Bishop for the Southern Region. Committed workers and volunteers assist in the provision of ministry, outreach and care to Anglicans and the wider community. Our Church supports mission via much-needed community services through Anglican schools, Anglicare Southern Queensland, Finance and Diocesan Services, the Ministry Education Commission, parishes and a range of ministries. We ask that all people commenting, or otherwise communicating, on this page do so in a spirit of Christian dignity and respect. “You may have a holy text or wisdom from your ancestors that you draw guidance from. Because I am a Christian I look to the Bible for guidance. There is a book in the Bible called James, which says: ‘Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry’. I use this passage as a guide when there is potential for conflict,” said Bishop Daniel Abot in this University of Queensland podcast.

“If God’s words create, and abusive words diminish, then our Christian words are called to restore. Paul imagines a community shaped by words such as humility, gentleness, patience, kindness — words that build up rather than tear down. The Church then must therefore take great care with its own speech,” said The Rev’d Deb Bird in the annual Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month St John's Cathedral, Brisbane Evensong sermon.

“…Matthew weaves together two stories of healing: a woman who has suffered with a flow of blood for twelve years, and a twelve-year-old girl who lies at the point of death… in both moments Jesus refuses to accept that these lives are beyond hope,” says Archbishop Jeremy Greaves

Matthew 9.9-13, 18-26   “…Matthew weaves together two stories of healing: a woman who has suffered with a flow of blood for twelve years, and a twelve-year-old girl who lies at the point of death… in both moments Jesus refuses to accept that these lives are beyond hope,” says Archbishop Jer...

“There is evidence that the Early Church enjoyed significant leadership by women. However, it was not long before the Empire’s dominant male-centred culture reshaped the Church. The reshaped Church then largely reshaped its interpretation of women and therefore of Mary’s role,” says The Very Rev’d Dr Peter Catt from St John's Cathedral, Brisbane.
