Just a brief recap - Acts 12:12–18, the church was gathered in earnest prayer for Peter, who had been imprisoned by Herod. In a miraculous answer to their prayers, an angel freed Peter from prison during the night. Peter went straight to the house where believers were praying. When Rhoda, a servant girl, recognised his voice at the door, she was so excited that she forgot to let him in! The believers struggled to believe the good news, even though they had been praying for it.
“Peter’s story burst beyond the walls of the church to the gatherings of those who did not yet believe. The witness of the early church was neither calculated nor strategic, but was simply the fruit of the collective lives of God’s people lived boldly and humbly before a watching world.” (Lectio 365)
