The ASLCA was formed on the 20th July 2003 in Melbourne, under the auspices of the Rev. Sisters residing in Geelong, along with a few Sri Lankan Catholics living in and around Melbourne. Sextus Kurukulasuria who was visiting Melbourne in 2005 to spiritually revitalize the Association. The purpose for a Sri Lankan Catholic Association in Melbourne was primarily to provide an opportunity to particip

ate in Holy Mass, Confession, Weddings, Funerals and Baptisms in the mother tongue. It is common knowledge that opportunities are abound in Melbourne to follow Holy Mass in English; likewise there were priests from Sri Lanka, India and Malaysia to carry out religious observations in Tamil. However, especially the Sinhalese from the older generation who were not used to the Western style of veneration were deprived of following religious observations in their own language. Therefore, attention was given to obtain the services of a Catholic priest from Sri Lanka. Under the guidance of the Archbishop and the Vicar General, The Interim committee succeeded in forming and registering the Association. The membership of the ASLCA was made open to all Sri Lankan Catholics, Sinhalese, Tamils and Burghers, domiciled in Melbourne. The Association successfully obtained the concurrence of the Vicar General on its constitution and on the structure of the Executive Committee and the membership. Rev Sister Anastine was elected as the First President of the Association.

๐ŸŒน Feast of Our Lady of Madhu โ€“ Melbourne 2026 ๐ŸŒน

On Sunday, 16th August, the Sri Lankan Catholic Community in Melbourne joyfully celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Madhu, organised by the Australia Sri Lanka Catholic Association and the Tamil Catholic Association of Victoria, to honour our beloved Mother of Madhu. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™

The celebration began with the Holy Rosary, followed by Holy Mass, a beautiful procession, and fellowship.

The Holy Mass was celebrated in Sinhala, Tamil and English, creating the same spirit, devotion and atmosphere that brings us a true feeling of home and the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu in Sri Lanka. ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ™

A heartfelt thank you to all the organisers, priests, nuns, volunteers, and everyone who came together and contributed to making this celebration a great success.

May Our Lady of Madhu continue to intercede for us, protect our families and bless our Sri Lankan Catholic community in Melbourne and around the world.

Our Lady of Madhu, pray for us! ๐ŸŒน
