It is possible to know the routine.
The songs. The prayers.
The words. The schedule.
The right responses.
The familiar rhythm of church and devotion.
And routines can be a gift.
They can help us stay grounded.
They can remind us to seek God.
They can create space for worship,
prayer, and Scripture.
But routine becomes dangerous when it allows
the heart to stay distant while the body keeps showing up.
Scripture says,
“These people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips, while
their hearts are far from me.”
Isaiah 29:13
God is not looking for empty habit.
He is not impressed by words that
do not come from surrender.
He is not after worship that
never reaches the heart.
He is not calling us only
to appear faithful.
He desires real communion.
A heart that listens.
A life that obeys.
A soul that returns
to Him sincerely.
So before worship becomes only familiar, pause.
Ask God to awaken what has grown dull.
Ask Him to restore wonder.
Ask Him to bring your heart back into
what your mouth has been saying.
Lord, awaken my heart where faith
has become only routine.
Bring me back to sincere worship,
honest prayer, and real surrender.
Amen.
Heart Check,
Am I only going through the motions, or is my heart truly drawing near to God?
